When looking at the evolution of advanced nursing practice, it is evident that nurses are now taking over role that were previously reserved for physicians and other specialties. The advanced practice can be observed in both the inpatient and outpatient management in the United States (Writers, 2019). This is inextricably intertwined with the changing roles of different specialties in regard to medical and nursing care practice in various care settings. 

The evolution role has influenced the current clinical practice and delivery of healthcare in the 21st century. This is because the healthcare of patients has evolved from  the services offered in small dispensaries  found in community and teaching hospitals  to the expensive  medical intensive care unit where nurse are provided with a chance to showcase their skills and abilities in a competitive healthcare environment (Writers, 2019). 

There are several professional traits that define the advanced nursing practice, this is because they are seen undertaking many functions  in a clinical setting like performing physical examination on patients, they are able to diagnose patients as they come in and  order for lab tests and interpret lab results.  Advanced nursing practitioners also perform other types of examination like psychosocial, psychological, functional and developmental which also includes diagnostic (Writers, 2019).  The have been able to develop different diagnoses, a role that was previously reserved for doctors and physicians. Advanced nursing practitioners undertake these roles as they continue to maintain patient records and ensure the privacy of patients, hospital and clinical aspects are followed and complied.  Advanced practitioners also make referrals of patients to other treatment facilities, they dispense medication and participate in evidence based research.
