The population aspect of the PICOT evaluates various attributes including age, ethnicity and other characteristics of the targeted patients. The research targets patients suffering from pressure ulcers. Pressure ulcers can also be referred to as decubitus ulcers or bedsores. Patients under consideration should experience injuries on their skin and underlying tissue hence resulting to sustained pressure on the skin. The patients can be of any age and ethnicity.
Intervention
The research will consider two main interventions that can be used to treat pressure ulcers. The interventions include negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) and wet-to-dry dressing. Negative-pressure wound therapy or vacuum assisted closure (VAC) uses a suction pump to remove extra exudate. Wet-to-dry dressing uses a wet gauze dressing placed on the wound and allowed to dry.
Comparison
The research will compare the level of hearing after patients are exposed to the two interventions.
Outcome
The research will determine the level of hearing after patients are exposed to the two treatments for the same period of time (60 days).
Time
To determine the most effective treatment method between negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) and wet-to-dry dressing, patients will be exposed to the treatment for a similar period which will be 60 days.
