Proposed Intervention and Expected Outcomes

The proposed project seeks to enhance the management of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers by educating healthcare staff and other stakeholders on appropriate strategies to prevent the condition. Educating the healthcare staff on the management of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers is in-line with continuous professional development (CPD) and Lifelong Learning principles. According to Price and Reichert (2017), Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in nursing is a vital tool in providing effective care and ensuring patient satisfaction. Educating healthcare staff is appropriate and realistic for the management of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers due to various factors. First, educating health professionals would ensure that they prevent hospital-acquired pressure ulcers and detect the condition at an early stage hence improving the quality of care. Secondly, educating the health care providers would expose them to the trend and innovation in the management of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers. Thirdly, educating the healthcare staff would influence them to mentor and guide other professionals in the management of the condition hence improve the overall quality of care. Fourth, educating the professionals would ensure that the interventions adopted in the management of the condition are evidence-based and effective. Fifth, educating the professionals is cost effective as compared to other interventions including hiring more experienced staff. The intervention is expected to lead to various improvements. First, educating the healthcare providers is expected to reduce the mortality and morbidity rates associated with hospital-acquired pressure ulcers in the ICU department. Secondly, educating health care providers will create awareness on the treatment and effects of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers. Healthcare providers will be more aware of risks that would expose patients to the condition. Thirdly, educating the healthcare professionals is expected to introduce new and innovative strategies to manage hospital-acquired pressure ulcers. The healthcare professionals will be educated on advancement and new developments in the management of the condition hence determine the most appropriate strategies based on the set-up of the healthcare facility and available resources among other factors. The provision of healthcare education will also ensure that healthcare facilities adopt a patient-centered care and increase the quality of care provided to the patients. Reducing the cases of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers and adopting evidence-based interventions to manage the condition would achieve the objective of the research and solve the research problem.
The education process will involve various steps. First, the important areas of the education programs will be identified. The literature review will highlight the most appropriate management strategies for the management of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers. The second process will involve recruiting the educators and collecting the necessary materials required during the educational programs. The last step will involve assessing the effectiveness of the program. The proposed research will be crucial in determining the most effective and reliable strategies for the management of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers. The proposed research will also highlight various stakeholders who should be involved in the educational process and provide evidence-based policies related to the interventions.
There are various challenges that may hinder the effectiveness of the educational program. Lack of support from the health facility’s management, lack of financial resources and lack of educators are among the main challenges that may hinder the programs. There are various steps that should be adopted to reduce the risk of these challenges. First, some of the healthcare providers can be trained as educators hence reduce the costs of employing educators. Secondly, the management can be informed on the expected benefits associated with the programs. Lastly, the project implementation team can attract donors to help finance the program hence reduce overall costs to the management.
The educational programs are based on the patient-centered approach to care since the healthcare providers will be taught to understand the unique characteristics of the patients before determining the preferred intervention. Patients and close family members will be included in the care process. The intervention will also be based on the quality care approach since reducing the cases of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers will reduce mortality and morbidity rates. Additionally, the educational programs will ensure that healthcare professionals adopt the most current and reliable strategies to manage hospital-acquired pressure ulcers. The educational programs promote continuous professional development hence enhance professional expertise.
