1. Abbott Northwestern Hospital

Abbot Northwestern is part of Allina Health (Minneapolis). It is one of the most seasoned hospitals dating back to 1882 when it opened doors to patients in a rental house. During the initial years, Dr. Amos Abbot was the consulting Physician to the pioneer staff. He held the position for 20 years before leaving to start a community healthcare institution under his name, Abbott Hospital for Women. Lurie children’s hospital was the first pediatric facility in the US to receive Magnet designation from American Nurses Credentialing Center. It is the first hospital to specialize in treating children in entire Chicago.

3. Aspirus Wausau (Wis) Hospital

This hospital has a bed capacity of 325 beds with 350 doctors in 35 specialties. Aspirus Wausau services date back to 1886 when a physician and his wife started offering the service. It is especially famous for a cardiovascular program. During the earlier times, it was called a "ticket hospital" as people could buy a $10 ticket and receive care for a year. Construction of the entire hospital completed in 1979. It currently serves patients from 14 counties across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and Wisconsin. It has an inpatient daily census of 160 and 15,000 admissions a year. Aspirus Wausau serves over 50,000 patients outpatients a year with over 24,000 cases going to the emergency department.

4. Aspen Colo. Valley Hospital

Aspen Valley Hospital is a critical access and a Level III trauma center. Pitkin County Citizen’s Hospital Committee began the hospital in 1889 to provide health care to single working men working in dangerous occupations. Today, it works in collaboration with the famous Mayo Clinic enabling local doctors to access medical expertise at the Mayo’s clinic network. Aspen Valley was the first hospital that Mayo selected to join its network after considering the service, operational and quality criteria. It was also among the only four hospitals in Colorado to receive a 5-star rating from CMS. A top 20 Best Practice in Financial Designation is another accolade that the hospital got from National Rural Health Association.

5. Aurora St. Luke Medical Center –Milwaukee

This hospital is popular for its cardiac services. It is the only hospital in Wisconsin with an expert hears care team on site 24/7. American Stroke Association and American Heart Association have recognized the hospital for its exemplary service in treating patients with stroke and cardiac illnesses. The cardiology prowess by Aurora St. Luke is historic as clinicians at the facility were the first in Wisconsin to implant a trans-catheter aortic valve replacement. The licensed bed capacity is 900 beds but it currently runs around 560. The service at Aurora St. Luke’s has won it various recognitions at regional and nations levels. U.S News and World Report ranked it as the best medical facility in Milwaukee metro area in 2015-16 and second in Wisconsin.
