NURS 3100 - Issues and Trends in Nursing
Students will gain an overview of the growth of nursing as a profession as well as an introduction to their new role as scholar-practitioners in this course. They look at the changes that have occurred in the United States' healthcare delivery system, the significance of information technology, and methods that enhance quality, safety, and better health outcomes in patient care. Students examine the most important challenges and trends in current nursing and healthcare practice, including the influence of socioeconomic, ethical, legal, and political aspects, as well as the values held by nursing and healthcare practitioners themselves. Students explore and share personal experiences in the context of contemporary nursing issues, such as the nursing shortage, workforce challenges, healthcare financing, professional organizations, and diversity, through weekly discussions and assignments in which they are guided by their instructors. They are asked to investigate and offer answers to these nursing concerns, in addition to those that they encounter at their place of employment. Students think on Walden's aim of social change and how it will influence their future nursing practice as a scholar-practitioner in the field of nursing. The fact that this is the first nursing course within the RN/BSN program means that students learn how to use Walden University's resources to improve their writing abilities. Students are also introduced to the tools that are necessary for success.
NURS 3100 Assignment – Quality Nursing
Welcome to the first part of this assignment!
This Assignment will also need you to return to the Library. The Library is an important resource for accessing databases and professional publications pertaining to nursing and health care. Continue to put in the time and effort to improve your writing abilities. In this lesson, you will learn how to properly use APA in-text citations and references. Make use of the Grammarly program—it is a wonderful writing tool that will help you improve your writing.
Quality Nurses use Quality Indicators (QIs) for a variety of purposes in their work. Quality indicators (QIs) are used to identify potential quality concerns, indicate areas that require additional study and investigation, and track changes over time. AHRQ Quality Indicators include Prevention Quality Indicators, Inpatient Quality Indicators, Patient Safety Indicators, and Pediatric Quality Indicators. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) QIs are available online (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, n.d.). Your Assignment will incorporate these quality indicators into its design.
In the coming weeks, you will continue to focus on this important subject-matter area.
in order to prepare examine the Week 4 Assignment Rubric, which may be found in the Course Information section.

Before you submit your final paper for grading, submit it to a Safe Assign Draft in Academic Integrity. Use the information provided in the Originality Report (University, n.d.-c) to revise your paper. Paraphrasing and citing your sources in-text will decrease the similarity score. Go to Academic Integrity to learn how to interpret your originality score. Revise your paper before submitting it to Week 4 Assignment within the course.
Safe Assign provides feedback to students on their use of source material using the world’s largest content comparison database. Safe Assign highlights original writing and instances of proper citation. Later in Week 6, you will learn the importance of understanding plagiarism and the concept of originality. ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CLASS
Discussion Questions (DQ)
Initial responses to the DQ should address all components of the questions asked, include a minimum of one scholarly source, and be at least 250 words.
Successful responses are substantive (i.e., add something new to the discussion, engage others in the discussion, well-developed idea) and include at least one scholarly source.
One or two sentence responses, simple statements of agreement or “good post,” and responses that are off-topic will not count as substantive. Substantive responses should be at least 150 words.
I encourage you to incorporate the readings from the week (as applicable) into your responses.
Weekly Participation
Your initial responses to the mandatory DQ do not count toward participation and are graded separately.
In addition to the DQ responses, you must post at least one reply to peers (or me) on three separate days, for a total of three replies.
Participation posts do not require a scholarly source/citation (unless you cite someone else’s work).
Part of your weekly participation includes viewing the weekly announcement and attesting to watching it in the comments. These announcements are made to ensure you understand everything that is due during the week.
APA Format and Writing Quality
Familiarize yourself with APA format and practice using it correctly. It is used for most writing assignments for your degree. Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in LoudCloud for APA paper templates, citation examples, tips, etc. Points will be deducted for poor use of APA format or absence of APA format (if required).
Cite all sources of information! When in doubt, cite the source. Paraphrasing also requires a citation.
I highly recommend using the APA Publication Manual, 6th edition.
Use of Direct Quotes
I discourage overutilization of direct quotes in DQs and assignments at the Masters’ level and deduct points accordingly.
As Masters’ level students, it is important that you be able to critically analyze and interpret information from journal articles and other resources. Simply restating someone else’s words does not demonstrate an understanding of the content or critical analysis of the content.
It is best to paraphrase content and cite your source.
