Assignment Details:

-
What are some strategies a novice nurse practitioner can employ to successfully transition to the professional role?
-
What professional development activities will facilitate the role transition
- Avoid using general, broad language when answering these questions. Instead, use specific examples from the literature or your own experience. For example, a weak answer to the first question might be “to seek guidance and read supportive material.” Using resources mentioned in your assigned readings, a better answer would include where and with whom to seek help, as well the types of supportive resources to access.
Among the professional activities that can facilitate the role of transition will include advocacy for the patients under care. It is also important to learn the eight steps of crucial conversations as this allows one to know how to approach different nursing care challenges. It is also important to volunteer for various nursing care roles, including community work, as this will sharpen the skills of becoming a professional nurse (Shatto, Meyer, & Delicath, 2016). One also needs to ensure that they have improved their time management skills since it, in most cases assuming new roles mean that one needs to be better organized or they can become overwhelmed after they no longer work with the support of instructors (Shatto, Meyer, & Delicath, 2016). One will be required to manage more patients, guide other nurses, organize shift schedules, and at times, administer medication. This calls for the practice of punctuality and setting the positive tone of the day. Among recommendations is one can manage time well with a ‘to do ‘list, avoiding multi-tasking, establishing deadlines, and learning to delegate (Shatto, Meyer, & Delicath, 2016).
