The paper can cover any of the course concepts and may be assigned by your clinical instructor. The body of the paper is to be two pages long. The paper must also include a title page and a reference page, totaling no more than four pages. All work must include in-text citations and be referenced using APA format. Students will address the areas outlined below in the paper, present their findings during a clinical conference, and hand in a hard copy to their clinical instructor. Areas to address: Pathophysiology of the diagnosis or diagnoses Expected symptoms and actual symptoms manifested by this patient. Possible and actual complications manifested by the patient including comorbidities. Common treatment modalities and diagnostic tests for the diagnosis; compare with actual treatment modalities initiated for the patient and actual test results. 2. Prioritize nursing diagnosis and care What factors did you consider in prioritizing your nursing care? Establish short and long term outcomes for the patient. What members of the interdisciplinary care team did you collaborate with to achieve these outcomes? Identify learning needs of the patient and discuss patient education strategies and information used to address those needs. Evaluate your care: Were patient outcomes achieved, why or why not? What would you have done differently to improve care? 3. Psychosocial needs Were the patients’ perceived health care priorities the same as your priorities? Explain. Identify cultural/spiritual considerations impacting the plan of care. Identify psychosocial and growth and development factors (Erickson) impacting the plan of care. What communication techniques were used/observed (verbal, nonverbal, therapeutic, non- therapeutic) and were they effective? Why or why not? 4. Summary Explain how your evidence-based research (i.e. the research studies discussed in the journal articles you found) supports or refutes the care your patient actually received? If you had this experience again, what would you do differently? What was the most important point you learned from caring for the patient? Rubric: Students must score 15 out of 18 to pass the assignment
