What strategies can staff nurses use to share evidence that could impact health policy decisions?

Policy making is one important responsibilities of nurses. Why is this? Health care policies have great implications within global health care system and generally the quality of health care. therefore, nurses must advocate for specific policies because they believe they will improve health care system. To come up with such an important decision making, nurses must gain both theoretical and practical experience which will help them to identify specific gaps which must be filled with the implementation of policies. To effectively share evidence that could impact health policies, nurses identify knowledge gaps, formulate questions, conduct literature, combine clinical evidence, allow constructive criticism from individual and patients preferences such that it easy to develop an action plan, implement and promote the plan, evaluate the results and disseminate project results (Hofmeyer & Taylor, 2021). This paper will pursue to highlight the various strategies staff nurses can share evidence that could impact health policy decisions.

The first strategy is the use of social media. Social media has become extremely important in conveying communication at a very first rate. Nurses can use technological applications to demonstrate a certain aspect which would impact health policy decisions (Wei et al., 2019). For instance, if nurses share videos of a certain problem within nursing practice, people will be agitated and demand for change which will greatly impact health policy decisions. We should agree in unison that technology appliances are slowly taking over our activities and operations, hence social media will be an important strategies staff nurses can use to share evidence that could impact health policy decisions. 

Another strategy is that nurses can work on to impact health care decision making is through lead community health initiatives. Communities play an important sector on the sustainability of health care system. Community comprises of patients, their families and stakeholders. As such, they are responsible for holding health sectors responsible (Drennan & Ross, 2019). Community engagement can help build and improve patient compliance with medical recommendation which will be positively affect policy making. As such nurses can use lead community initiatives to share evidence and gather analytical data that will be shared for change within a health care policy. 

Educating the community and health care providers is also another strategy that can change decision within health care policies. As such, nurses can provide fact-based information, inform communities and health care providers to decipher problems within healthcare (Drennan & Ross, 2019). From such, communities and health care providers can identify opportunities, provide public comments from a local level to the national and international levels. After sharing fact-based information, healthcare providers and communities will help in the decision making which can help change health care policies. 

Using legislations is also another important strategy that can be used to share evidence that could impact decision making within health policy decisions. Legislators play key role within health care policy making. Other nurses can prepare legislations, others are legislators themselves and they prepare bills which share evidence that could impact health care decisions (Wei et al., 2019). For instance, every state has health care bills that help improve quality of health. Practicing patient advocacy, involvement in local policymaking, encourage change and pursue higher education. To sum up, policy making can be practiced in many avenues from local to international standards.
