VARK Analysis Paper

Instructions:

learning styles represent the different approaches to learning based on preferences, weaknesses, and strengths. for learners to best achieve the desired educational outcome, learning styles must be considered when creating a plan. complete "the vark questionnaire," located on the vark website, and then complete the following:

1- click "ok" to receive your questionnaire scores.
2- once you have determined your preferred learning style, review the corresponding link to view your learning preference.
3- review the other learning styles: visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic, and multimodal (listed on the vark questionnaire results page).
4- compare your current preferred learning strategies to the identified strategies for your preferred learning style.
5- examine how awareness of learning styles has influenced your perceptions of teaching and learning.

in a paper (750-1,000 words), summarize your analysis of this exercise and discuss the overall value of learning styles. include the following:

1- provide a summary of your learning style according the vark questionnaire.
2- describe your preferred learning strategies. compare your current preferred learning strategies to the identified strategies for your preferred learning style.
3- describe how individual learning styles affect the degree to which a learner can understand or perform educational activities. discuss the importance of an educator identifying individual learning styles and preferences when working with learners.
4- discuss why understanding the learning styles of individuals participating in health promotion is important to achieving the desired outcome. how do learning styles ultimately affect the possibility for a behavioral change? how would different learning styles be accommodated in health promotion?

Summary of My Learning Style According to the Vark Questionnaire

According to the VARK Questionnaire, my learning preference is Multimodal (ARK). Therefore, I prefer listening, discussion, talking, questioning, and taking notes. I also prefer handouts, print, text, practical exercises, experiences, examples, case studies, trial and error, and things that are real. My VARK scores were visual 2, Aural 8, Read/Write 11, and Kinesthetic 11.

Describing My Preferred Learning Strategies and Comparing with Vark Questionnaire

I am an auditory learner because I learn through attending lectures, groups’ discussions, and tutorials. My preferred learning style contrasts with the Vark questionnaire findings that considered my learning preference to be multimodal.  Girón-García & Gargallo-Camarillas (2020) define multimodal learning as a learning strategy that incorporates all the four learning styles, including kinesthetic, tactile, auditory, and visual. Multimodal learning is effective for individuals with learning challenges that require texts and visual inputs to enhance understanding. For instance, educators can use graphic organizers, videos, films, and pictures for multimodal learners.  However, my preferred learning style is auditory learning style, which contradicts the findings from Vark Questionnaire.

How Individual Learning Style Affect their Understanding or Performance of Educational Activities

Leaning styles affect student’s understanding or performance of educational activities because they predict their ability to solve problems and process information. Students absorb and process information differently, which consequently impact their performance.  For instance, some learners are visual learners because they understand and perform better when taught through visual representations, including videos, graphs, diagrams, and images (Grand Canyon University, 2020). These learners retain information when explained using visual aids. However, some students are auditory learners who retain and process information when presented through audiobooks, podcasts, group discussion, and lectures (Grand Canyon University, 2020). In contrast, kinesthetic learners learn through hands-on experience and physical exercises and prefer educational activities like practical tasks, experiments, and role-playing to enhance their processing and comprehension of information. Unlike kinesthetic learners, tactile learners learn through touch, including simulations or role playing to enhance their comprehension of complex information (Grand Canyon University, 2020). In this case, educators should understand and consider their students learning style and customize their teaching strategies and instructional materials to reflect the diverse learning style of their students (Oliveira et al., 2023).  Adapting teaching strategies and materials promotes a more engaging and individualized learning environment that enhances learners’ opportunity for success.

The Importance of an Educator Identifying Individual Learning Styles and Preferences When Working With Learners

It is common for student’s learning style to conflict with their tutor’s teaching style. As a result, some learners find it challenging to understand and process information, resulting in student’s learning outcomes being compromised. Thus, educators should identify their student’s diverse learning styles and train them to be flexible in applying them through instructional support. Alternatively, educators can use diverse teaching activities’ and strategies to reflect learner’s diverse learning needs (Al-Roomy, 2023). Ideally, identifying individual learning styles and preferences helps differentiate lessons to reflect learners’ needs.  For instance, educators can use diagrams, pictures, projectors, or whiteboards to support visual learners and incorporate group discussions, question-and-answer sessions, listening to recordings and watching videos to support auditory learners. Furthermore, educators can use writing, reading, and researching to support reading/ writing learners and use physical activities and role modeling for kinesthetic learners. Including diverse learning styles makes learners feel engaged and comfortable, thus enhancing their processing and understanding of information presented.

Why Understanding the Learning Style of Individuals Participating in Health Promotion Is Important to Achieving the Desired Outcomes

Understanding the learning style of individuals participating in health promotion is paramount because it helps explain health information in a manner that the target patient population can comprehend and integrate in their daily lives. Additionally, identifying patients learning styles enhances self-management and treatment adherence (Umali, 2022). In this case, a health promoter should identify the target audience’s learning styles and identify innovative strategies to educate them about self-management and disease process. Depending on whether the target audiences are visual, auditory, reading/writing or kinesthetic learners, the health promoter should integrate diverse teaching strategies to enhance audience understanding of their disease process and self-management techniques (Umali, 2022). The teaching strategies can include  teach-back method and educational  materials in diverse formats, including handouts, brochures, pamphlets, and other strategies like PowerPoint presentations, DVDs, videos, YouTube videos, podcasts, graphics, demonstrations, and one-on-one teaching. Using these diverse strategies will incorporate the diverse learning needs of the patients and make them knowledgeable about their health conditions and increase their likelihood of engaging in self-management activities, asking questions about their health conditions, and adhere to their follow-up appointments. Therefore, learning style ultimately affect the possibility for a behavioral change because when patients understand their disease process, they modify their behaviors to improve their health outcomes. Therefore, educators can accommodate different learning styles in health promotion using different teaching strategies and materials, including teach-back method, demonstrations, videos, pamphlets and brochures. The use of these materials will accommodate the learning styles of different health promotion audience.
