I have engaged in various projects in my personal and professional activities. The most engaging and involving project that I engaged in was being part of a team that created guidelines for various processes in a health facility. We created policies and guidelines for various practices including bedside handover and patient involvement. The project exposed me to various duties and I learned various important aspects of project management.
First, before implementing the project, the team should set clear project goals and objectives. Project goals should have realistic timelines and agreed upon by various stakeholders (Zwikael, Chih and Meredith, 2018). The objectives should be in written format and state relevant personnel.
Secondly, the team in charge of implementing the project should be dynamic and remain flexible. Projects are exposed to various unforeseeable challenges including changes in regulatory framework and weather changes among others. Being dynamic and flexible enables the team to develop creative ideas to overcome unplanned challenges.
Thirdly, the project implementation team should ensure effective communication between various stakeholders. There are various formal and informal communication channels that can be adopted depending on the target audience (Katerega and Sebunya, 2017). For example, meetings can be used to communicate to shareholders while memos can be adopted to communicate to employees.
Additionally, project implementation team should keep track of current activities and ensure that the project stays on track. There are various online software that can be used including online Kanban boards that ensure that the project is being implemented within the required time. Evaluating the project regularly increases the chances of completing the project on time and consuming the pre-determined resources. Lastly, documentation of important aspects of the project including costs and timelines is crucial in accomplishing future similar projects.
