Massachusetts is one of the states that have some of the best acts although some of them contradict those set by the federal government. All in all nursing practitioners have to abide by the laws set aside by the immediate state. The general rules of Massachusetts are divided into various sections depending on what is being addressed. There is a section that handles issues of drugs and prescription. The section is divided into multiple sub-sections which clarify different aspects about prescription of drugs (Katz et al., 2010). A nursing practitioner is only allowed to prescribe if authorized to do so. The not only comes from the experienced doctors but from agencies mandated to monitor the use of substances. In most cases, these agencies are from the federal government. However, there are some requirements such as licensing from the authorities which in most cases is granted only to pharmacists. This means that the nurses have to keep consulting the veterans of the sector which is a pharmacist to confirm whether the prescription is valid. Such regulations appear to be oppressive to nursing practitioners. The same case applies when prescribing nonnarcotic substances. The laws of the state are clear that only the licensed pharmacist is allowed to prescribe the drugs. Issues of identification and accountability are the reasons behind all these.
