Group Presentation
Prepare a group presentation and deliver it as a case study of a health project in a low or middle-income country. Outline the public health intervention and contextualise this against the health economy for that country
Your presentation should be a maximum of 20 minutes and each member of the group should contribute to the delivery. You may use PowerPoint or other visual resources. The presentation can be recorded as a PowerPoint Narration and uploaded to Turnitin, or it can be recorded on reView/Microsoft Teams.
Each member of the group should contribute equally to the preparation and presentation. The presentation will be based on one of the case studies below. The presentation will be marked individually. Marks will be deducted from students for lack of contribution.
Groups are ideally four in number and will be no more than five. Students can choose their groups and case studies (with the restriction below). Students should provide the module leader with their group personnel and the case study they wish. The module leader will intervene to determine groups and case studies if necessary.
While case studies may be used more than once, repetition will be minimised. Therefore, all case studies should be taken before any repetition is allowed.
You need to outline the intervention and consider the following points:
- The organisation of health care in the country
- Who were the stakeholders, decision makers and influential actors?
- What was the nature of the problem?
- What were the contextual factors?
- Were there any alternatives to the action taken?
- Recommendations for how the work could be developed
- Lessons to be learned
Shiffman & Smith’s criteria (below) might help you think critically about the case study:
- Strength of the actors involved
- Power of the ideas they use to portray the initiatives
- Nature of the political content
- Characteristics of the initiative itself
Mark and feedback will be provided on the Postgraduate Generic Assessment Criteria sheet (see Assessment unit on Canvas), no more than four working university weeks after deadline.
